Each Thursday we’re taking Instagram to the streets. And to this blog. Remembering the good ol’ days – cause if any good therapist will tell you, it’s best to live in the past.

Just over a year ago, the Oestreich family from Iowa drove down to see the Oestreich son in Texas. On the 18 hour drive from Iowa to Texas, there are numerous numerous things to see and do. One of them, apparently being break into The Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma. Please let me know if there are any words that shouldn’t be more intertwined in a sentence than “Family, Memorial and Break-In.” But yeah, that happened. Nothing like a quick felony charge pitstop on a family road trip. Go Sooners!

The model citizen of the family, didn’t have to break in this stadium to grab this picture. You wouldn’t of guessed it by looking at him, but young Adam got to sit in the sky boxes with the Gold Club Texas members for this Texas vs. Baylor game last year at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Free food. Free drink. I can’t ever go back to a College Football game with the peasants. Treated like royalty at one of the richest schools in the country was definitely a treat. And a 100point shootout with no defense was pretty cool too.

Listen we get it. Dave Matthews Band. Seriously? We’ve hear all the jokes before. But – I don’t get it too. The dude has some awesome chill songs mannn. And puts on one heck of a show. For real. Honestly though if you get a chance to go see Dave ever do it. Just once. Then you can hate on him. Or love him. And honestly, if you ever get a chance to go to Alpine Valley in Wisconsin to see a show. You gotta go. And after that, drive 2 hours North to the Wisconsin Dells and just go nuts playing miniature golf. You won’t regret it. Whether you love him or hate him. I don’t know he puts on a good show right? Takes me back to the good old days of playing NBA Live 2010 with the “Train,” drinking Jack and Coke and listening to Dave letting “Grace be Gone.” You may have no idea what that means. But neither do I. Rest in peace “Train.”

Believe it or not. I use to be a runner. I didn’t say a good runner. But I was a runner. Look at that form. One eye closed. Spandex. Upside down head band paying respect to Rajon Rondo. I look good. Those were the days. Back when I could almost run 4 days in a row without needing a day of rest. The AO long run became famous in running circles all over the world. From here to New Zealand. Everyone knew that if you were going for a long run on a Saturday, you could always make it an AO long run 15 mins in by turning back and going home. These days. when I go for runs I can’t make it more then 3 miles without throwing up. I went for two runs this week, I haven’t been able to walk right since. It sure isn’t hard for me to have more beers than miles in a week. But one of these days I will return to glory. Believe it or not.

Today is Halloween – and because Facebook didn’t exist when I was 5. These are the only Halloween photos we can find. From the throwback. When it was Halloween. Some classics for sure.

Happy Halloween all!

Screen Shot 2013-10-24 at 4.52.47 PMYou haven’t lived until you’ve been to a Girl Talk concert. And you definitely haven’t lived, or almost died after 4 day long birthday bender followed up by a Monday night Girl Talk concert. Try not to wear too many clothes when you go. You will either sweat through them all or end up taking them off and throwing them around your head or someone may just rip them off of you. That all may or may not have happened at this particular show. But what did happen was glory. Toilet paper, confetti, balloons, beach balls. Ca’mon. Here we are preparing for the show. Jello shots and goofy glasses and all. One of these guys made it out the whole night even after the show. One did not. Guess which one?

IMG_1357With only 3 races left in the chase, after just finishing up at the biggest track on the Chase schedule lineup, and heading now to the smallest track. It seems fitting to throw in a NASCAR picture to the mix. We’ve only been to short track racing, which as a spectator might be the best way to go. Newton Motorspeedway in Iowa isn’t on the Sprint Cup schedule, yet. But one day you will see a Spring Cup race in Newton. Last year at Bristol was great. Especially when for the end of days every single pre-Bristol commercial for the Bristol Race will show Tony Stewart taking off his helmet and throwing it at Matt Kenseth’s car. Dominant. Not only were we there. But we were there. Like right there. Standing on the fence watching it all unfold. I will tell my kids this story over and over and over again until they can’t stand to hear it anymore. And then I will tell it to them again. Just for good measure. They may hate me. But hey, isn’t that what all high school kids are suppose to do at one point or another? If you ever get a chance to catch a NASCAR race at Bristol, or a Football game for that matter. Go. 160,000 people at the world’s largest amplitheater. Loud noises. Cold beer. Cars doing a buck 40 in circles for three hours at night. America.

After the toss.

Just like Rafiki said in the “Lion King” – It is time. The ACL Festival is here. Well, it’s been here actually. Nick’s fall break is here. Weekend one took place just a few days ago and weekend two is a day away and boy are we ready. This year, we actually are ready – we have 3 day passes. Barring we survive the first two days, we will be there all weekend. Like I’ve said before, it’s a marathon not a sprint. Good thing we’ve never run a marathon before. This picture here was taken on that third and final day last year, and what a glorious day it was. It’s worth mentioning that although we both look like goofs, Adam more so than me. I don’t always look like a goof. And it took a lot of courage and peer pressure by my bigger brother for me to wear his dumbass Coca-Cola polar bear shirt. Especially since he told the same joke over and over all day – “Hope the polar bears don’t melt, it’s a little too hot out here for them!” Ha. Good one. Somehow, someway he usually convinces me to wear some goofy clothes to all the shows we go to. Who knows what I’ll be wearing this year. We’ll just have to wait and see what dumbass clothes he has this time.

The reason we are wearing Longhorns shirts, (sorry Mom) and the reason we are wearing such big grins is because this was the Saturday of ACL last year. It was going to be our first day at the ACL festival. We were to go watch the Red River shootout downtown, then take in all that was the ACL festival. Notice how I keep say was, and were? This WAS a beautiful morning waking up to a nice cool class of home-brew sangria at 10am before heading down to ACL only to get turned away due to a “fake” ticket bought on Craigslist by Gavin. You better hope I don’t see you at the hamburger stand this year bud. Did I mention after we got turned away we had to walk 2 miles back to the car in the pouring rain? Yeah. That happened. All is well though – that will not be happening this year. Oh we are going to get wet, forecast isn’t looking too hot. But we are getting turned away this year folks. The beer and wine will be flowing and we will be glowing (?) with happiness all 3 days at ACL this year. No Longhorns shirts this year. Promise.

Believe it or not, Kansas City is a great town for sports. Even though the Chiefs and Royals aren’t the greatest teams in their respective leagues (the Chiefs are making moves though) – they sure do know how to host a sporting event. And even though soccer isn’t as big in the States as it is in Europe, it is big in the towns that have it, and the soccer faithful could care less what you think of them or their team. They dig it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s quite a few – quite a few stones throws away from the EPL. Probably shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath unless you include the words NOT in it. But the MLS is definitely getting better, and it was great to catch my first game in KC.

The first weekend of the ACL Music Festival starts tomorrow. Us here, we won’t be partaking until the second weekend – but all this music talk is getting me going. This picture takes me back to a very special show that took place in my living room. Well it wasn’t my living room – but a buddy let me borrow it. This is my all-time favorite band “Phantom Vibrations.” Back here in 2008 they were called “Shortcut”, but either way they put on one hell of a show in front of 40 drunk college kids in a tiny college house. It was like a classic 90’s movie. Perfect. One of my all-time favorite memories of my long and expensive collegiate career!

Some teams just have another teams number. No matter where it is, no matter what the record. Northwestern basketball but more recently Northwestern football always beats Iowa – no matter what. That’s kind of what it was like for Penn State when they met up with Iowa. Was it the Pink locker rooms? Maybe. Was it Joe Pa? Who knows. Either way in the past 11 goes of it, the Hawkeyes have own 8, dropping the past two. Nick was at the last one, he obviously didn’t bring much luck. But here’s to hoping things turn around.

Is baseball season over yet? If you’re looking for baseball analysis, you are in the wrong place. We don’t watch too much baseball around here. But you want to take me to a game? I’m all in. This photo is from at least 10 years ago, when me and a few buddies hopped on a bus to Chicago to catch ourselves a Cubbies game. You learn quite a bit when you are a young teenager on a bus full of drunks. Not much baseball was reminisced, the only talk was of Jody, Jody Davis – the best damn catcher in the National League.
